ABOUT
For his new collaboration, Louis Vuitton called upon a major figure in contemporary art, New York artist Jeff Koons. The masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rubens and Fragonard have been adapted to the pieces that make up this new collection of bags and accessories, entitled The Da Vinci Collection.
After collaborating with Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse or Olafur Eliasson Louis Vuitton chose Jeff Koons to imagine a new collection. Famous for his monumental metal works, the artist transposes paintings by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Van Gogh or Rubens, this time on bags and accessories. By choosing works that are part of the collective memory, the Masters series invites the public to take a new look at great painters by taking them out of museums.
Jeff Koons reinterprets the iconic Monogram in metallic details, affixed to the outside of the bag and topping the artist’s signature, a first for the House. Each creation is adorned with a bag accessory depicting the Rabbit, the famous work of the contemporary artist, while inside there is a biography and a portrait of the painter whose painting is reproduced on the bag.
To perfectly adapt the works on the accessories and canvas of the Speedy, Keepal or Neverfull bags, Louis Vuitton pushed the limits of his know-how and developed new techniques. This collaboration is a first step and other chapters will be part of this project to celebrate the Maison’s multiple links with art history
