Vintage Design
This wonderful chair and footstool was designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset in 1971. The ‘Marsala’ is one of Ducaroy’s first models using the new materials of the time – thermoformed plastic. The curved body and arms of the chair and footstool are formed from a brown acrylic glass structure, on which sits thick, super comfortable buttoned cushions, all in their original chocolate brown leather.
The aniline leather is of the highest quality – it’s the most natural, soft and supple of all leather types. Aniline leather is also generally the most expensive of all leathers, as only the very best raw hides can qualify for this type. The leather cushions are incredibly soft, the stitching is in very good condition, there are no rips or tears, just wonderful patina and age-related marks, as would be expected from a piece with original 1970s leather.
Each cushion has a ‘Ligne Roset’ fabric tag on the side, a striped fabric panel on the underside with the wording ‘France Roset’, leather covered seat buttons, air holes to allow the cushions to breath, and wooden toggles to hold the centre of the seat in shape.
The acrylic glass structure, which also forms the feet of the chair and footstool, is in good solid condition. The acrylic glass arms are bolted to the structure, whilst the arm cushions are attached with a leather strap through a purpose made hole through the acrylic glass. One of the acrylic glass arms has a previous repair using fibreglass, and is very strong. This repair cannot be seen when the cushions are in place.
Please note, we have a matching three seater sofa available in a separate listings in our shop – please see last image.
