Featured during the “Thierry Mugler, Couturissime” exhibition at the “Musée des Arts Décoratifs” in Paris in 2021-2022 and at the “Brooklyn Museum” in New York in 2022-2023 (see picture 4), this 1995 Spring-Summer Mugler corset skirt suit is a true museum worthy piece.
For the 2020 Mugler Spring-Summer collection, artistic director Casey Cadwallader reinterpreted this iconic design. The result was this mesh corset cropped jacket that Bella Hadid wore for the first look of the fashion show (see picture 15), together with a mesh corseted mini dress for the look 6 of the same fashion show (see picture 16).
In May 2023, this iconic design was also the inspiration behind a sought-after blazer item in the collaboration between the giant H&M and Thierry Mugler.
Last but not least, the first version (which was laced) of this truly fantastic archival piece walked the runway on Mugler’s muse Connie Fleming for the 1992 Fall-Winter couture collection (see picture 14).
Expertly tailored, the jacket features notched lapels, two flap pockets and a fitted boned semi sheer black mesh corset waist, topped with a ravishing bow. Partly lined, it fastens with a concealed zip and two hidden press buttons. The padded shoulders add structure.
Part of the suit, the mini skirt has a kind of V-shaped waistband (see picture 15). Fully lined, it is designed to sit just below navel.
Both jacket and mini skirt are labeled a vintage French size 38 (US 6 / UK 10 / IT 42) but runs small to size.
