Vintage Design
This Classic Scandinavian bookcase was designed by Danish master carpenter Johannes Sorth for Nexø Møbelfabrik, Bornholm, Denmark in 1956. The idea was to combine a cabinet and a book case, and it was an instant success.
It was produced in five different versions, and this version in Rosewood/Palisander is with a dresser underneath the shelves. Three large drawers, the top one has built in dividers. It can stand alone or be combined with other book cases from the same series.
The pull out desktop adds another function as a secretaire or writing desk besides being a bookcase. The three wide shelves are also height adjustable for individual needs.
This piece has an extraordinary beautiful and expressive rosewood grain and deep color.
Very good handbuilt quality. True craftsmanship from the Danish Mid-Century Modern era.
Date of production: June 11 1965. Stamped on back.
Amazing vintage condition. Only few signs of use. Hole in backing for wires, presently closed with black tape that can easily be removed. Table top has a few small dings, please see photo. Gently cleaned, oiled and polished.
